The gap this chapter addresses
These students can scroll through a hundred images a minute and describe none of them beyond 'nice' or 'cool.' The gap is the translation step from seeing to naming, not visual attention itself.
AI supplies the words; the student supplies the seeing. Never let a generated word bank replace the act of observation itself.
Additional activities for Chapter 10
Activity A15-20 min
Five-Sense Word Bank Build. Using a CLEAR prompt, students generate an 8-word sensory bank per sense for one described scene, then must use at least one word from four different senses in their paragraph.
Activity B15-20 min
Show, Don't Tell Rewrite. Students take three 'telling' sentences ('it was scary') from their own writing and rewrite each as 'showing' (physical, concrete detail), trading with a partner to check the difference is detectable.
